The Bookworm is Beijing’s premier English language lending library, bookshop, restaurant and events space.

The Bookworm has flourished into a bustling centre for literary activity. Our library has grown to an impressive 16,000 titles, our restaurant is headed up by a team of experienced chefs and restaurant personnel, and our bookshop continues to stock a fabulous selection of titles, some of which you’ll be quite surprised to find in Beijing.

Throughout the year, we also play host to a range of fascinating writers and literary types, with festivals, author talks, books signings, poetry nights and discussion groups. Whether you’re interested in the hottest new Chinese writers, or the most distinguished of commentators on doing business in Asia, there’s something for everyone.

How can I get involved?

  • Participation: simply come along, to either our bar and restaurant, or one of our events to see for yourself what really goes on at the 'worm.
  • Membership: our membership scheme, costing 200RMB for 6 months, and 300RMB for a year, allows you to borrow books from our extensive library, and to gain discounts on our fee paying events
  • Parties and Functions: contact our Food and Beverage manager, Coen, to discuss our great range of options for private parties, staff do’s, lunches, or outside catering
  • Events: Our program of literary festivals, writers’ talks and book signings is growing. Contact Events manager Jenny for details, or to plan your book launch
  • Bookshop: looking for presents? Come and browse our great selection of fiction and non-fiction. Can’t find what you’re looking for? We’ll try our best to source those hard-to-find titles from our network of suppliers and publishers.
  • Living outside Beijing? The Bookworm Chendgu opened it’s doors to the public this summer… see www.chinabookworm.com  for more details!
